Neue Weltumfassende Resistance: Fierce collab between Gabi Delgado and Marc Hurtado finally sees the light of day

Please read what Jeremy Allen wrote for the Electronic Music Magazine, as it perfectly captures the essence of the music on the double album "Neue Weltumfassende Resistance" by Gabi Delgado and Marc Hurtado

"'Erotique Narcotique' is simply one of 2025's most outstanding dancefloor bangers, and the fact it might have come together at any point between 2004 and 2018 is neither here nor there.

That was the period in which the late, great Gabi Delgado, frontman of Dusseldorf EBM/Neue Deutsch Welle outfit DAF, and Marc Hurtado of French avant-garde siblings Etant Donnes, were exchanging musical ideas electronically across borders.

The pair managed to get together for several recording sessions in that time, in Berlin and Cordoba, and they played two live shows at festivals in Nantes and Lausanne in the mid-2000s.

If that all sounds like a rather casual arrangement, rest assured that 'Neue Weltumfassende Resistance' is anything but. It's an album so forceful and muscular, you wonder how anyone has been able to contain it until now, particularly the 'Erotique Narcotique' track, which combines what sounds like a revving engine with punishing beats and offbeat bass punctuated by acclamations of “Achtung!" and "Resistance!".

'Ich Traume Nur' is also unrelenting in its clip-clopping rhythm track and sequenced bass, demanding movement from whoever is listening as Delgado and Hurtado purr into darkness.

And the self-referential 'Hurtado/Delgado' races like a rabbit's heart, it's the perfect soundtrack to dancing in a crepuscular basement. Nothing, including death evidently, can subdue it.

Who's doing what musically, and who's saying what over these corruscating rhythms, is often lost in an echo chamber of whispers. Voices come and go, sotto voce, overlapping at times, creating a sense of closeness that edges towards the homoerotic, where hardness meets sensuality and even tenderness. It's all a 21st century illusion, of course, given the distance between collaborators as midwives to these explosive 15 tracks.

Arriving five years after Delgado's passing, its title meaning "new worldwide resistance", the album feels as timely as the German composer's death was untimely. It's a shame he's not here to enjoy the fruits of a partnership that maybe wasn't taken as seriously as it should have been by the artists themselves. If nothing else, it's a call to action and a reminder that life is short.

But 'Neue Weltumfassende Resistance’ is something else, and it's almost impossible to resist."
