Der Dokumentarfilm (Deutschland 2024, 87 Minuten, ab 14 Jahren) begleitet Mona Mur von der West-Berliner Post-Punk-Szene der 1980er Jahre bis in die Gegenwart und zeichnet ihre künstlerische Entwicklung über verschiedene musikalische Ausdrucksformen hinweg nach.
 
Der Phonoklub
 
Im Phonoklub der Amerika-Gedenkbibliothek Berlin wird am 13. April eine Auswahl unserer Veröffentlichungen auf Vinyl vorgestellt. Das Mithören ist im gesamten Bibliotheksbereich per Funkkopfhörer möglich (Ausgabe vor Ort).
Der Phonoklub steht für sorgfältig kuratierte Vinyl-Sessions von Berliner Indie-Labels ebenso wie besondere Funde aus den Archiven. In dieser Ausgabe liegt der Fokus auf play loud! productions.
play loud! wurde 1997 in New York von Dietmar Post und Lucía Palacios gegründet und ist seit 2003 in Berlin ansässig. Wir veröffentlichen Musik und Texte, produzieren Filme und entwickeln mit der play loud! (live) music series ein wachsendes alternatives Musikarchiv. Bekannt wurde play loud! insbesondere durch Musikdokumentationen wie „Monks: The Transatlantic Feedback“ (Grimme-Preis) sowie durch politische Filmprojekte wie „Deutsche Pop Zustände“.

Film, Streaming & Kooperationen
 
Im Rahmen der Reihe zeigen wir am 7. Mai im PopUp-Kino unseren aktuellen Film „Mona Mur in Conversation“ mit anschließendem Gespräch mit dem Filmemacher Dietmar Post.
Parallel dazu werden ab dem 25. April mehrere Filme von play loud! auf filmfriend verfügbar sein. filmfriend ist ein werbefreier Streamingdienst für Filme und Serien, der über öffentliche Bibliotheken in mehreren europäischen Ländern zugänglich ist.
Alle play loud! Musikveröffentlichungen kann man übrigens über den ebenfalls bibliotheksbasierten, kostenlosen Streaming-Dienst Freegal Music anhören.
play loud! möchte mit Nachdruck auf diese beiden bibliotheksbasierten Streamingangebote (Film & Music) hinweisen, denn sie sind im Meer der kommerziellen Anbieter das Licht am Ende des Tunnels: Werbefrei, kostenlos und nicht von Algorithmen bestimmt, sondern von Menschen kuratiert. Obendrein erhalten Künstler*innen und Plattenlabels eine wesentlich höhere Lizenzauszahlung. Man braucht in der Bundesrepublik nur einen gültigen Bibliotheksausweis, der nur für Erwachsene (nicht für Schüler*innen, Azubis oder Student*innen) 10 Euro im Jahr kostet. Vergessen wir also Netflix und Spotify und stürmen wir die Angebote von filmfriend und Freegal (steht für Free und Legal).

In the presence of Dietmar Post

The documentary film (Germany 2024, 87 minutes, age 14+) follows Mona Mur from the West Berlin post-punk scene of the 1980s to the present day and traces her artistic development across various musical forms of expression. The film won the Audience Award at the Unerhört Music Film Festival in Hamburg and at the Soundwatch Music Film Festival in Berlin.
 
 
The Phonoclub
 
At the Phonoclub of the Amerika-Gedenkbibliothek Berlin, a selection of our vinyl releases will be presented on April 13. Listening is possible throughout the entire library via wireless headphones (available on site).
The Phonoclub stands for carefully curated vinyl sessions from Berlin indie labels as well as special finds from archives. This edition focuses on play loud! productions.
play loud! was founded in New York in 1997 by Dietmar Post and Lucía Palacios and has been based in Berlin since 2003. We release music and texts, produce films, and, with the play loud! (live) music series, develop a growing alternative music archive. play loud! became particularly well known through music documentaries such as “Monks: The Transatlantic Feedback” (Grimme Award), as well as political film projects like “German Pop & Circumstance.”
 

Film, Streaming & Collaborations 
 
As part of the series, we will screen our current film “Mona Mur in Conversation” on May 7 at the PopUp Cinema, followed by a discussion with filmmaker Dietmar Post.
At the same time, starting April 25, several play loud! films will be available on filmfriend. filmfriend is an ad-free streaming service for films and series, accessible through public libraries in several European countries.
All play loud! music releases can also be listened to via the free, library-based streaming service Freegal Music.
 
play loud! would like to strongly highlight these two library-based streaming platforms (film & music), as they are a light at the end of the tunnel in a sea of commercial providers: ad-free, free of charge, and not driven by algorithms but curated by people. In addition, artists and record labels receive significantly higher licensing payouts. In Germany, all you need is a valid library card, which costs only €10 per year for adults (free for pupils, apprentices, or students). So, let’s forget Netflix and Spotify and dive into the offerings of filmfriend and Freegal (short for Free and Legal).

  SEE THE SOUND ist das Filmfestival von SoundTrack_Cologne und bringt Musikdokumentationen auf die große Leinwand, die sonst nicht im Kino zu sehen wären. Es findet vom 9.-13.7.2025 in Köln statt.    War, declares Mona Mur upfront in this film of her in conversation with Dietmar Post, was always her theme, the Cold War her reality. Seated before a large TV monitor that has just screened her recent rendition of the Brecht/ Weill song “ Concerning A Drowned Girl" to Gerhard Schiewe's excellent accordion accompaniment in a Berlin courtyard, she economically pencils in its history in the course of chronologically unfolding her own story.
